- Difficulty in breathing or hyperventilation
- Palpitations
- Increased heart beat
- Pain in the chest
- Shivering tendency
- Suffocation
- Profuse perspiration
- Feeling of nausea
- Dizziness
- Losing balance
- Detachment
There is another sign or disorder associated with panic attack. It’s known as agoraphobia. Here, a person tries to run away from his/her surroundings. The thought of getting rid of embarrassment in public places inculcates a fear within a person.
It’s a disorder accompanied by panic attacks and includes the following symptoms:
- Getting detached from home
- Walking on your own, alone.
- Avoiding going to crowded places such as malls, eating outlets, cinema theatres, etc.
- Over eating of things that might trigger a panic attack.
What Causes an Anxiety Attack?
There can be several reasons on this planet for you to feel anxious. Maybe the fear of world coming to an end or a feeling that you are going to die tomorrow, might lead you to a state of worry or terror!
Well that’s just one aspect of getting an anxiety attack. But there are better reasons to experience the unwanted symptoms of panic attack. These are:
- Stress at work, home, in life, etc.
- Not relaxing, that is working for continuous hours.
- Biological problems – hyperthyroidism, hypoglycemia etc.
- Emotional problems
- Nutritional deficiencies such as mineral or vitamin deficiency.
- Hereditary in nature
It is now a common problem amongst older people, adults as well as youngsters. The amount of stress that one undergoes in day to day life has made psychological disorders to pop out. One of them being anxiety disorder or panic attack!
To be honest, around 65% of the world’s population suffers from anxiety attack. The amount still is increasing day by day.
Treatment of anxiety attack!
Since it’s a psychological disorder, the level at which the treatment happens is also therapeutic in nature.
There are various therapies done at some good clinics by trained therapists.

- Regarded as one of the best means of treatment of panic disorder.
- It takes into consideration the thought patterns and a person’s behavioral response.

Exposure Therapy
The theory as the name suggests involves exposure to sensations in one’s surrounding. However, it’s done in order to give rise to a situation of panic in a clinical setting.
- The therapist might ask you to show signs of panic attack. This might include palpitations or sweating or any other sign. It’s a part of the therapy and is an exercise done to the patient.
- The person in this exercise is in a way is exposed to the symptoms of anxiety attack. He/she is made to sense the fear which gradually decreases with each exercise.
- The treatment also comprises of getting rid of situations of avoidance. The patient is made to experience the situation of extreme fear so as to feel that he is undergoing a real situation of terror. The phobia that lasts within the mind of the patient is removed through the exposure therapy.
The therapies are indeed a very common and one of the most trusted ways to get rid of panic attacks. The person suffering from panic attack is not only made to experience the created fear, but also is made to emotionally feel that he/she is being exposed to that fear.
Medications that Work!
Generally, there are medicines that are taken by patients on a timely duration. This is a temporary cure as it cannot be used in the long run.
A few of the medications that work on a temporary basis are:
- Antidepressants: These are medicines that help the patient get rid of depression or stress. It has to be taken on a regular basis.
- Benzodiazepines: These medicines are effective in action. These are taken when a patient gets a panic attack. It’s a great relief for patients undergoing attacks of anxiety. These medicines are addictive in nature.At times, it may also lead to detachment.
A few more measures that a person suffering from panic attack can take are:
- Avoiding smoking excessively.
- Also avoiding alcohol intake. Occasionally it might be allowed.
- Breathing exercises
- Yoga
So at a stage when things can be curable, one must follow the instructions seriously and go ahead with the treatment.
Panic attacks are not a life risking disease, but yes they do need to be attended.
